Below is a list of the therapies offered in more detail. Each therapy has a suggested number of sessions and can be discussed in more detail during the intial consultation.
Play Therapy involves all manner of toys, games and art materials. This therapy uses metaphor and symbolism to help the individual explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions. It can be helpful for all manner of difficulties, such as neurodivergences, trauma, behavioural issues and mental health concerns. It is usually a long term therapy.
Drawing & Talking is a set therapeutic intervention that uses metaphor and attachment to help individual's explore their subconscious and process/integrate their past into their present. It is similar to play therapy but only uses pencil and paper. It is 12 week intervention.
Sandplay uses many of the same principles as Drawing & Talking, but using a sand tray and small world figures. The individual explores their subconscious using the sand and creates a world within it. The symbolism and metaphors explored in the sand can help the individual process trauma and emotions. It is a 12 week intervention.
This intervention involves exploring an individual's past, mainly focused on their birth family and any additional families they may have links to. I am qualified to deliver the Richard Rose model. TLSW is usually helpful for adopted, fostered or looked-after children, or adults who have been looked after. It helps the individual piece together their identity and helps them discover information about their birth/care families.
The group work I do is an extension of Drawing & Talking. It can be delivered to small groups or whole classes. It shares many of the same aims as Drawing & Talking, but utilises peer support as well as the practitioner. The interventions focus on emotion wellbeing and emotional regulation, but can be tailored to all sorts of emotion-focused issues.
PCAP works with parents to help support the formation of a secure attachment with their children. This can be used for parent's who are fostering or who have adopted, as well as birth parents and carers. It uses attachment theory and play to help support the parent/child relationship and strengthen it through set play sessions. We also look at the importance of boundaries and reflective functioning. This intervention can last anything from a few months to 18 months.
This therapy focuses on the future and changes you can make, rather than dwelling on the past. This can suit some people more than therapies that focus on processing past experiences. It can be a very short term therapy or it can be longer, it is up to the individual. It utilised goal making and miracle questions to help you come up with your own solutions to aspects of your life that you're not happy with.
